Frequently Asked Questions

    How is a uterine/ovarian cyst/fibroid diagnosed?
Hi guys! I was just wondering, how does a Dr check for a uterine/ovarian cyst/fibroid? Does he/she perform an ultrasound on you, similar to the one done on pregnant women?
Afterwards, what treatment options are available? Can a woman have sex/children afterwards?
Thank you so much for your help!!

    • ANSWER:
If they’re big enough, the doc can feel it during an exam. Then the doc will order an ultrasound and can see it on the ultrasound. For ovarian cysts, the doc will usually do an internal ultrasound–the ultrasound wand is put in your vagina. It’s easier to see small things that way. But for something large, then the doc will do an external ultrasound (on your belly) like they do for pregnant women.

For ovarian cysts, there are 3 things possible to do:
      1) nothing–wait and see if it goes away on its own
      2) birth control pills–see if they make it go away
      3) surgery to remove the cyst

Sometimes cysts interfere with pregnancy, sometimes not. Depends on the type of cyst. Sometimes when removing the cyst, the ovary must be removed too. But you can be fertile with just one ovary.

For uterine fibroids, there are several possibilities. They will never go away on their own.
      1) uterine artery embolization (UAE)–a relatively new procedure to non-surgically shrink the fibroid so it goes away, via blocking the artery supplying it with blood.
      2) surgery to remove the fibroid only–called myomectomy
      3) hysterectomy
With UAE, you can remain fertile. With hysterectomy, you won’t be fertile anymore. And having a fibroid can interfere with carrying pregnancy.

Fibroid and painful haemorrhagic cyst. Is contraceptive pills safe for this ailment?
I have hemorrhagic cyst and uterine fybroid, and was on contraceptive pills for 7 days. Soon after I had that pill, I felt nausea, and the cyst started to hurt. And it hurts more everyday until I stopped taking the pills. Before taking this the pain that I had was an on and off pinch. Is it safe for me to have this pill.
Is there a natural way to clear the cyst and fibroid?

    • ANSWER:
Depending on the overall medical history it may be ok to take the pill for helping with the fibroid and the cyst but because of the symptoms you are having I would recommend letting your doctor know what’s going on so that they can evaluate the situation further.

As far as a natural way to clear up the cyst and fibroid, not that I’m aware of but check with your doctor because they may have information that could help on the natural front.

What is the different to fibroid and cyst?
Normally, I saw people posted – fibroids in the uterus, cysts in the ovaries. Other than the location, are they the same things or different type of growing substances?

    • ANSWER:
A cyst has fluid (pus) inside it and a fibroid is made up of tissue. Cysts & fibroids can occur anywhere in the body.

What’s the $ costs of removing fibroid, cyst and mass by Laparoscopy or Hysteroscopy? FL and non-FL surgery.
Ultrasound images shows that I have an enlarged uterus (10.4 x 5 cm) with a 8 cm mass that might be a fibroid. There are also a 3.7 cm cyst and a 9 cm “complex mass which is predominantly solid”. An MRI was recommended by the analyst.

I am in the process of scheduling an MRI with a OB/GYN. The one I am referred to is not on my insurance’s “Preferred Privider” list, but he is the best in town. Since surgically removing the masses by Laparoscopic Myomectomy or Hysteroscopic Myomectomy is very likely, I am worry about the costs, my insurance will only cover 60% for out-of-network surgeon. Can anyone share their experience? The cost of:
    – MRI
    – Hospitalization and Surgery
In short, how much is the total bill (before insurance reimbursement) to get the whole thing done and be over with?

    • ANSWER:
Laparoscopy surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her Hernia and colostomy surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for Minimal Invasive and Laparoscopy surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange Hernia, Appendectomy, Thyroid and other laparoscopy surgery for foreigners in India.
I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the Hernia, Colostomy and other minimal invasive surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

      Hope this helps.

Can a fibroid cyst show up on your kidney?

    • ANSWER:
I think you are a little confused with your nomenclature. Kidneys can have benign cysts. Fibroids are a benign tumor of the uterus. Why not explain your problem in a little more detail and get a decent answer?

How do the symptoms differ between an ovarian cyst and a fibroid tumor?

    • ANSWER:
I have had both and had no symptoms with either. I believe a cyst can go away on its own and fibroids must be surgically removed. I currently have 4 small fibroids, I had no clue. When I was younger I used to get really bad stomach pains, the doctor said I had an ovarian cyst and the only way to get rid of it would be to go on the pill or get pregnant. Well, at 16 I wasn’t really prepared to do either. I eventually quit having the pains luckily. These are just my personal experiences. My mom had a fibroid tumor removed at age 30 by hysterectomy. Luckily it was noncancerous. You can do some more medically correct research here…

Is my breast discomfort from a fibroid cyst or could I be pregnant?
I ovulated on November 13th, had sex that night with my husband and he withdrew. 4 days later, both of my breasts began to feel heavy and tender. On November 20th, I noticed that my left breast was larger than my right breast and also much more tender. I felt around and noticed a mass in my breast.
I went to a nurse practitioner today, and she did a breast exam and said she thought I had a fibroid cyst and that I probably wasn’t pregnant. I asked her why then did I have tenderness in both of my breasts, since this is abnormal for me. She said it was just hormones.
I am too early to take a home pregnancy test yet. I’ll have to wait about one more week. But does anyone have any insight as to why both my breasts would be tender all of the sudden and why this all just came about this month?

    * 1 hour ago
    * – 3 days left to answer.

BTW, I believe the nurse when she says I probably have a fibroid cyst. I just don’t
The nurse practitioner scheduled me for an ultra-sound on my breast to see what’s going on. But I can’t get in until the end of the month.

She didn’t want to do a blood test b/c she said the labs would be closed for the holidays anyways. I don’t know.

    • ANSWER:
You probably have a condition call fibroid cyst disease. And it can cause all the problem you are telling me you have. Your doctor will probably give you a sonogram and a mammogram. To be sure that what it is. And all that is when your fibroid cyst gets big you will have to get them drained. And don’t worry this condition does not cause cancer, it is just something us women have to deal with for having breast.

6 months after surgery the cyst was back.. with heavy periods.. and now it’s become a septated cyst. do i need to worry that it might lead to ovarian cancer. been told to closely watch & have had regular ultrasounds, but would removing it be safer. also have had vaginal itching lately. is it related?

    • ANSWER:
Ive had the same prob i had a cyst removed from my uterus it was 7cm in dia. i beat endometriosis with hormones that was 10 years ago no sign of it. i think removing it is a good option depends on you age. i suffer from vaginal dryness with itching it may be related as i have only had it since having my cyst removed in feb 2007. i would find a good gino and talk to them about your problems good luck and i hope it all works out for the best

do you know about pregnancy, plus fibroid and cyst. I was just told i have those?
i’m 12#1. got pg, through fertility treatment. i’ve done scans before, all was clear.

got a surprise today when doc told me my ultrasound detected bubs. but also a fibroid, and a cyst :(

What does this imply. any experiences. both +ve plus -ve please.

    God bless

    • ANSWER:
Cysts in pregnancy are common, they are from the follicle that the egg came from. I have one with each pregnancy, they dissipate after the pregnancy is over.

As for the fibroid, well normally they interfere with implantation which obviously did not occur in this case and they might obscure the cervix which would warrant a c-section, but that can be determined later in pregnancy. I would not worry about either actually.

ttc for a yr just learned i have a uterine fibroid and ovarian cyst?
any similar stories? what procedures did you have to undergo

    • ANSWER:
I too had uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts. I had surgery to have the fibroids removed and had to have my left ovary removed as well as the tube. Don’t give up ttc, if need be your Doc can remove the fibroids from your uterus and you should still be able to conceive as long as your periods are normal and your otherwise healthy. Im also trying to conceive but i also have my age working against me but I wont give up until i know for sure theres no hope. Keep your chin up and best wishes to you!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone ever had fibroid cysts removed from inside their uterus and then went on to have a successful preg?
I suspect I may have fibroid cysts. I am told that if they are inside the uterus and are removed that they will absolutely come back and then you have to have your uterus removed. A friend of mine just had to get hers taken out because of this exact situation. So have any of you women ever had them removed and then went on to have a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby??

I’ve read that having fibroids during pregnancy can cause deformities?

    • ANSWER:
I am speaking from recent experience. I had 6 large fibroids removed from inside and outside my uterus on April 4, 2008. My surgery was done by a fertility doctor who specialized in preserving women’s uterus’. 2 weeks after my surgery, my dr told me we could resume intimacy but not to get pregnant. Surprise! I got pregnant that night! I am currently 27wks with a healthy boy. I am experiencing abdominal pain but other than that I am fine. I was pregnant before I had the fibroids removed and I made it to 18wks. My son didn’t die because of the fibroids but because of an incompetent cervix. Don’t let anyone tell you what is and isn’t possible. I thought we would never conceive. I would advise you to seek help from a specialist and don’t stop until you get an answer that you are satisfied with. Best wishes!

No period, no pregnancy, one big cyst, fibroid and liquid in my pelvis?
I havent had my period this month and I am so not pregnant. I just got a sonogram because I have felt this uncomfy heavy pain on my bottom stomach, its like its putting pressure on everything. Well it turns out to be that I have one cyst, fibroid I guess in my uterus and liquid in my pelvis or in my uterus I dont quite remember. I have to follow up with a gynocologyst but does this sound normal to you? Why isnt my period coming and what the heck is liquid in my pelvis or uterus? Is the heavy pain because of my cyst?
    Thanks so much!
BTW I staqrted BC this week.
    I am also bloated.

    • ANSWER:
Your period isn’t coming because of what is happening in your reproductive system. I personally have know experience with this type of problem, mine was ovarian cysts, but while figuring out what was going on with me I did a lot of research, I am not sure what the fluid will be, but fibroids can be very troublesome, you may have endometriosis as well as fibroids. If you want children, you are going to have to get this treated and under control, spend lots of time with your gyne to figure the best options for you.
All that fluid is why you are bloated.

    What are ovarian fibroid cyst?
My mother has this, and I was wondering what these were. Please help me!!!

    • ANSWER:
Well… there are two separate things..

      An Ovarian Cyst OR
      uterine fibroid.

An ovarian cyst is very common… many women have them, identified by means of an ultrasound.. can be treated with medication (Often a birth control pill) or if it’s large cysts.. surgically removed.

A Uterine fibroid is also identifed by means of an ultrasound. This is a larger mass within the uterus as opposed to being in the ovary… common, but more worrisome than an ovarian cyst.

Depending on the size, shape and consistency of the fibroid.. it can be treated with an IUD.. sometimes (worse case scenario) a hysterectomy is required.

You need to take your Mom back to the doctor, get an ultrasound & treatment options… if there is a language barrier, make sure there is someone with her to translate (I encountered this exact problem today in my office)

      Good Luck

i just found out i have 2 cm fibroid in uterus and cyst in left ovary?
my question is why did this happend to me im only 27 and have 2 kids should i worry please help has this happen to any one else.

    • ANSWER:
Dont panic. You will be surprised to know that almost half of the women the world over, irresspective of age suffer from fibroids. It is rarely life threatening and responds very well to natural remedies.
since you still are in the child bearing age , it does not make sense to go in for surgical treament. Natural cure for treatment of uterine fibroids should be the first option which you must explore. To learn about my story please visit

    Uterine Fibroid Cyst?
I had a vaginal ultra sound due to a completely unrelated issue, and they found a small cyst (7mm) now the doctor sd it was small and shouldn’t cause any problems. Now I am having the worst pain on my period I have EVER had and it will not go away. Not even the Oxycondone I am on for another issue makes the pain go away! And it is so heavy I go trough a Super plus tampon and heavy pad in about 1-3hours…this is not normal for me. I am wondering if I should go back to the doctor and if the cyst could be the problem….

    • ANSWER:
I’m going through the same type of problem. Mine is 1.5 mm, my doctor told me that my cyst couldn’t be causing my pelvic pain, I’m not so sure tho…but she did say that with these cysts it is normal to have freakishly heavy and painful periods as I did. She is thinking about starting me on birth control and then in 3-6 months discontinuing, she said that it could possibly help some of the symptoms and stuff. I’m planning on following up with my primary physician about this matter. Don’t know if this is any help or not. Hope so.

Difference between a cyst lump, and cancer lump?
What is the difference in feel of a cancer lump, and a fibroid?

I have had the same lump in my breast for about a year, and my doctor says it’s fibroid cyst. She did not run a biopsy, but did to a mammogram. The lump has not gotten bigger throughout the year.

I did notice another lump in the same breast about 2 weeks ago.

I’m a bit worried, as my breast has has had a dull pain in it for the past month. I have been drinking a lot of caffeine though.

    • ANSWER:
A cyst has a round shape, whereas cancer will have an irregular shape. Also, a cyst will have what is called an “encapsulated” feel when you touch it…you can sort of move it around under your skin. Not so with cancer.

How is it possible to have an ovarian cyst while on hormonal birth control?
A 4 cm ovarian cyst exists while on either birth control pills, or nuvaring. The doctor says it is a follicular cyst, yet all my research shows that hormones prevent and shrink ovarian cysts.
Pelvic pain/pressure has existed for several years, and many tests and procedures show nothing other than 1 cm fibroid & the cyst.

    • ANSWER:
i was on the patch when i had my first cyst it was 5.5cm, the patch was hormonal, so i would say yes, after getting off the birth control it went down to 2.5cm.
hope this helps, and good luck!

Last night I felt a ‘pop’ in my L breast during the night. Now my breast is very sore. Did a cyst burst?
I have a history of fibroid cysts. I have had two masses removed that were benign. I heard and felt the ‘pop’ in my breast, and today the pain is unreal in my left breast and left upper arm. I am a RN but have never heard of this before. Do you think it is a Cyst that burst?

    • ANSWER:
You should def see a doctor and get a mammogram. I’ve never heard of this happening before. You should get it checked, because toxins could be leaking into your breast and could cause a serious infection.

    • ANSWER:
An ovarian cyst is a fluid sack attached to your one of your ovaries and a fibroid is a solid. Most fibroids are small growths of knotty connective tissue that develop in different ways and are almost always benign. Fibroids are common with women and in some cases hereditary. They can be extremely painful even though benign and cause many problems. You will get tremendous relief once they are removed. They sometime come back thou

I have a fibroid in uterus, and my left ovary is removed due to ovarian cyst. Can I conceive & get pregnant?
I am married. I have four daughters. Now that I want to take a chance again. two of my elder daughters were born when I had the overian cyst (first in Nov’97 and other in feb’99) and that after the removal of cyst (it was removed in Apr’99)I have given birth to my twin daughters in July 2001.

    • ANSWER:
My wife had multiple uterine fibroids prior to her getting pregnant with twins. So, obviously, we were able to conceive and get quite pregnant. The OB kept an eye on the fibroids since they were getting extra blood during the pregnancy and did grow quite large. There was concern that they could crowd the girls, cause issues with the uterine walls, complicate delivery by getting in the way, etc.

As it turns out, they never grew too big .. the largest was about the size of an orange, I think, which is much smaller than the OB said they could grow.

Since the girls were born, about 4 years ago, the fibroids never did return to their pre-pregnancy size. My wife’s uterus stayed the size of a 3-month pregnancy and the fibroids began to calcify and become very sensitve and she had a hysterectomy recently to resolve those issues.

Retained Placenta, Fibroid, or Ovarian Cyst??!!?
Looking for some advice from people in the health profession if possible. Here’s my story:

I had a late miscarriage at 16 weeks May 31 due to a Subchorionic Hemorrhage that caused an infection of Pepto-Streptococcus. I was given IV antibiotics in the hospital and a week’s worth of Doxycycline at home. Since then, my body has not been right which I know can be expected, but I seriously think something is wrong. I stopped the lochia bleeding mid June and started my “period” July 9. However I continued to bleed every other day throughout July and was prescribed Provera to stop the bleeding. It did stop the bleeding, however now there is a 3 cm Cyst on my left ovary and a fibroid or polyp in my uterus about 1 cm big. My 2 periods since Provera have been nothing but spotting, and I don’t think I’m ovulating.

    NOW to the worrisome part:
I have been experiencing a very strange pain on my cervix or in that vicinity; as well as the urge to pee often. I also have horrible increasing ovarian/pelvic pain. I’ve tested negative for BV, Yeast, and Trich. Is there any chance what I’m being told is a fibroid is actually retained placenta thus causing infection?? I’ve seen 2 doctors and I’m SO FRUSTRATED AND SCARED!!!
Wanted to add: I would also like experience from someone who maybe has had retained placenta or an in utero infection or post partum infection. Thanks.

TTC with Fibroid, Right Ovarian Cyst and Right Tubal Blockage?
Hey, I posted this question and didn’t really get any responses, so I’ll ask it again. What are the chances of me conceiving with a small fibroid, a right ovarian cyst and my right tube being blocked. Me and DH have been TTC for awhile with no luck but the doctor said after my HSG (April 17, 2009), my chances of conceiving increases because the dye could have forced out debris if any were in there. She said if I dont conceive in 3 months, then I should come back and she will refer me to an RE. What to you girls think of this? Any answers will be great!!! BABY DUST TO ALL OF US

    • ANSWER:
You still should be able to conceive ok. Ovarian cysts will usually not effect your ability to have kids. For the majority of women, the presence of ovarian cysts has no impact on their ability to conceive. Typically, ovarian cysts remain small and don’t interfere with ovulation or conception.

Fibroids can affect fertility, but hopefully not if you have only a small fibroid – the problem usually arises when large fibroids block the fallopian tube, stopping the sperm and egg meeting.

And the right tube blocked – this could make getting pregnant slightly more difficult, but should not stop conception.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your future babies!

I have a Fibroid and a cyst on my ovary, would surgery help?

    • ANSWER:
Nobody on YA! is going to have the expertise to advise you appropriately. Talk it over with your surgeon.

Is this a cyst or a fibroid. Please advice ladies.I am very stressed. I have been through a lot in last 10 mos.?
I had cyst like pain in my left side 2 months back which started soon after my period.I have had left side ovarian cysts earlier and the pain was just the same along with burning while peeing.Always associated with cysts. Also since 2 mos when I am supposed to ovulate from the left side I don’t but from the right side I do ovulate.
I had ultrasound done in June and there was no cyst but 2 weeks back after another ultrasound and the symptoms they found the cyst.
The guy who did my ultrasound was a senior radiologist doctor. He started seeing with the ultrasound on my belly he first said there is NO cyst then after 2-3 mins when he came back to it he found a small functional cyst of 1.9 cm.
He gave me pics of the ultrasound.

    Now what bothers me is:
Why didnt he find the cyst at first could this mean its a fibroid in the uterus and not a cyst?

I have spotting sometimes after heavy exercise, is that also a symptom for an ovarian cyst?

I am very worried about the above 2 things although I acted crazy and went back to the doctor the next day and he said showed me where the cyst is etc on the pics and said with a smile why I am questioning his 20 yrs of experience in radiology. Now what bothers me is he’s not a gynecologist.

I am so worried because I had a stillborn 10 mos back and want to start trying to conceive again and want to be sure this is just a cyst.

    Please help me.

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like a cyst to me. I have frequent pain on my right side and my doctor told me it was classic cyst pain. I get it any time during the month. I too had a stillborn 12 months ago, and a late (2nd trimester) miscarriage 3 weeks ago. Ugh, nothing seems to be working out this last year. But cyst or fibroid, I would think you could TTC again. Fibroids are difficult to remove, and cyst generally pose no risk to pregnancies. My doctor thinks my blood clotted in the placenta/umbilical cord in both losses. Nothing related to my occasional cyst.
I hate it when people act all high and mighty when they are the “expert” on things. Your ultrasound tech shouldn’t have given you that attitude, but I think it’s not unusual for a tech to have to search for a little wile to find what they’re looking for.
Are you thinking this is not a cyst but maybe something horrible like cancer. You would have other signs like irregular cycles, and such, but not necessarily pain.
I don’t know if spotting after exercise is a sign of cyst. I usually have no mid cycle spotting, but my sister does a lot and she also gets the occasional cyst.
      Good luck with everything.

    pregnancy cyst ? fibroid?
I am wondering if any other pregnant lady has had this? I am 8 weeks pregnant and have found a large growth, lump at the end of my vagina attatched to the skin inside, it is rather deep inside and hasnt been causing any prblems except it appears to gave grown since i first noticed, about 6 weeks ago. Has anyone else had this?, does any one know what it could be? my doctors appointment isnt for a week so im very worried.

    Thank you

    • ANSWER:
I would have your doctor check it out. It doesn’t sound like an STD to me. It sounds like a growth, of some kind. Your doctor will remove it if it looks to be of concern, and will biopsy it to make sure that it’s nothing serious. If you want it gone, tell him, and either he’ll do it, or he’ll refer you to a dermatologist, and have THEM do it.

Try not to stress about it. Often times, when you get pregnant, moles can grow and change. That may have been there for a long time, but started growing when you got pregnant.

Talk to your doctor, hon, and try to relax.

3 Fibroid in the Uterus and 1 Cyst?
Just visited the doctor and she found 3 fibroids and a cyst in my uterus, has anyone experienced this?

    • ANSWER:
I have had numerous fibroids in my uterus, three as big as walnuts. They can cause painful and irregular bleeding. I was already in my 50′s, so she told me to chill and go on hormones at 55; that they would shrink away on thier own. I am not familiar with the cyst problem, though.

can a fibroid and a potiental cyst come up on a ca 125 test?
the reason why is beacuse my mom who is 45 years old which rises a scare but she got a ca 125 test back in april of 2007 and the test said that the level was 18 and then she found out she had a fibroid… a harmless fibriod….. then like in the beginning of january of 2008 she said she just relized that she had pain when she went and take a poop……so today is febuary 21st and about 2 days ago she went in too take another ca 125 test…. then she got a ultrascan which turns out her right ovary is bigger than her left and somthing is on it about 7cm which i measured and is about the size of an egg…. so the ca 125 results came back and turns out she is in the 100′s now can a potiental cyst and a fibriod make that level rise? and i understand usually that when in the 100′s its cancer but i think its a cyst…..she will be having surgery somtime next week but i am very scared and if she has the big C……i dont kno what i would do i am only 15 years old….

    • ANSWER:
You need to take a deep breath and relax. Sounds like your mom’s doctor is taking all the precautions to make sure he is on top of your mother’s medical condition.

The following websites will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the test, what it shows and what is does not show.

Take heart, you have no reason to believe that your mother has cancer. Be there for her and love her and let the doctor do what he does best.

      Good Luck

Have been diagnosed with hemorrhagic functional cyst and small uterine fibroid?
I have an pelvic untrasound recently and was dignoised with two of these things, The Dr say there is nothing to worry,we just have to keep a look on your ovary cyst and the fibroid is very common every 40 % of women has it before they get pregnant. I have been TTC for 7 months but still not pregnant. My question Does these factor effect me from conceiving. The Dr says there want be any problem but I would like to have more suggestions,
    Appreciate your good advice

    • ANSWER:
Funny thing, I was just at the ER on Wednesday for two hemorrhagic cysts! They’re actually very common, this is my second time getting them and I’m only 20. My best friend and my mom have had them many times. I went to the doctor today and they put me on birth control because that helps you from getting the cysts. You will NOT have any problem conceiving! I promise! It happens to women all the time, they either end up dissolving or rupturing. But they don’t hurt you.

I suggest you talk to your doctor about going on birth control!!!

Is uterine fibroid is the same with ovarian cyst?

    • ANSWER:
no, it is similar but not the same. the cyst usually goes away on its own, but a fibroid is a growth that is usually taken off by surgery.

Women – have you ever had to have a cyst removed from your ovary?
I will have to go for an op to get a cyst (fibroid i think) removed from my ovary. Has anyone done this, and how bad was the pain afterwards? I have heard its harder to fall pregnant after, has anyone had a baby after having it removed? thanks, i hate the thought of going under anesthetic and have not ever been to the hospital for anything before, apart from labour. But i have been told to get it removed.

    • ANSWER:
I have had a cyst removed from my ovary before. My doctor drained the cyst.

I have a friend who has had a fibroid removed from her uterus before. I have talked to other women who have had this done and depending on how the doctor removed it (depending on the location) it didn’t affect their ability to get pregnant, but everyone is different.

I would recommend getting another opinion before having surgery, preferably from someone that does not share the same office of the doctor you currently go to, to see what they say.

Horrible pelvic pain and bleeding 9 days post-op for endometriosis,DNC, fibroid, and possible dermoid cyst?
I’m 30 yrs old, and had a exploritory laproscopy 9 days ago because of pelvic pain I’ve been suffering for several months. They did a DNC, and found and removed endometriosis. They also found a fibroid tumor on the outside of the uterus, removed scar tissue from previous surgeries (this was my 4th) and found a possible dermoid cyst in the ovary. 4 days ago, I strained lifting a box, got a terrible pain in my pelvis, and have been bleeding quite heavy and still have bad pelvic pain since. It’s getting worse now, the bleeding and the pain. I cannot sleep (it’s 4 AM). I talked to my doc yesterday, and he said bleeding and pain is normal after the DNC and such. I’ve had a DNC before, but I don’t remember the pain being this bad. I’d say it’s an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10, and the pain meds aren’t helping much (percocet).
My question is, if this is normal, or should get this checked asap. The pain is terrible, and travels down to my knee, hip, back and buttocks. It feels like my ovary is about to explode! I’ve also been getting these stabbing like pains up through my vagina from time to time. It’s a quick sharp pain that only lasts a sec. but it so painful it takes my breath away!
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Any ideas to help ease this? I’m doing all I can, but nothing seems to be working. I take the pain meds as prescribed, and have really been trying to rest and take it easy. Hot baths usually help, but that’s not even working. Not sure how much more I can tollerate.
    Thanks for any suggestions…..

    • ANSWER:
This is not normal sweetie – did you tell your doctor about lifting a box? I have had the same surgery for endometriosis and was advised not to lift practically anything for two weeks after.

You need to see your doctor NOW, or better yet, take yourself to the ER. You shouldn’t be bleeding this much now (I’d finished bleeding within 24 hours), and this is a lot of pain to be in nine days later. Go to the ER before you get any worse!

    wat is a mammogram/mammography?wat will it show that a xray cannot?wats difference b/w cyst,fibroid,cancer?

wat is a mammogram/ mammography?wat will it show that a xray cannot?wats difference b/w cyst, fibroid, cancer?

    • ANSWER:
A mash-o-gram (as my wife calls them) is in fact an x-ray.

If you are thinking of a chest x-ray, then a mamogram shows only breast tissue and not the thickness of the chest. Therefore, there is more things that can be seen by the radiologist.

A cyst is a sac that contains fluid or semi-solids–perhaps an encapsulated infection.

A fibroid is usually associated with the uterus–a benign thickening of the muscle wall—-I’m no doctor, but i don’t think breasts have fibroids.

And cancer of the breast can be either malignant to varying degrees or benign—the whole reason for a mammogram. The earlier a cancer is detected, the easier to treat and the more likely a successful treatment.

I developed an abnormal uterine growth early on in my last pregnancy. At one point my baby was curled around it. It was about the size of a finger, and he just curled right around it. They kept a close eye on it, and everything turned out just fine. (pregnancy wise and baby wise)

How do you know if you have a Uterine Fibroid or a Ovarian Cyst?
Hi guys! I’m just wondering, how would you know if you have either or, or both? Are ovarian cysts close to the belly button? Do uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts cause two different types of symptoms? Is one more common than the other in younger women as apposed to older?

I’m 26, and think I may have one of these. I feel a small mass, like a dime or quarter size close to around my pubic hair above my pubic bone, on the right side. I don’t feel much pain but discomfort when I get up and start walking.
I really want children in the future… Will I be able to have a normal sex life and healthy children in the future? Thanks so much for your help!!

How did having a hysterectomie affect your relationship?
I was told I needed to have my uterus removed due to a fibroid cyst that has increased in size. I am worried about how this surgery will affect my relationship and my selfworth. Please share your experience. (I’d love to hear a man’s point of view on this as well)

    • ANSWER:
While I haven’t had a hysterectomy, I have had fibroids. I had them treated without a hysterectomy through a technique called uterine arterial embolization. There is another technique called myomectomy that is also effective, and probably better if there is only one fibroid.

I encourage you to seek a second opinion – hysterectomy is one of the most over-recommended and over-done medical techniques around. Unfortunately, some doctors view the uterus as an unnecessary organ, and some view hysterectomies and a profitable enterprise. There aren’t many of those, but it only takes one doctor to make a decision that’s more in line with his or her needs than yours.

I also encourage you to understand what the other treatments available are, and ask your doctor for a good reason why those treatments aren’t right for you.

    fibroid cysts?? what??
So, I went to the gyno today, mainly to ask questions about getting off birth control in hopes of TTC in the near future. During the breast exam the dr. says I have fibroid cysts. I was so concentrated on the whole birth control issue that I forgot to ask about these cysts…so can anyone tell me more? I am only 25 and I don’t want anything lumpy in my boobs!! Thanks for your input!

    • ANSWER:
My sister has gone 2 times in the past month about this! They told her to stop drinking coffee. And take vitamine E. And any caffiene cut back on it. They shouldnt give you a problem. If they dont go away and really start hurting then I would call. Other than that they go away. Also he told her that her birth control also caused them to. Good luck!
